“Grief Day by Day” is a thoughtful, well-written book which covers the ground of grief comprehensively. The information it provides is useful and valuable to every griever, regardless of their status. It supports the shattered griever, the seeking griever, and the hopeful, transitioning griever. The context here is not about “healing” from grief and loss; it is about living with both. It honors and affirms and validates each person’s individual grief experience.The author has done an admirable job of avoiding the subtext of so many “self help” books which too often unwittingly convey the message that something is wrong with us, and needs fixing. The reflections she shares about her own grief experience reveal a rare depth and breadth of hard-won wisdom, and an extensive knowledge of grief gathered from many sources. Her experience is, of course, unique – as every person’s experience is – and she shares it gracefully and quietly and to good effect.I consider this book a valuable addition to my own library, and recommend it highly.

Jan Warner is the ultimate grief guru! Her profound understanding of grief, use of language, and the format of this book serves as an indispensable road map for grievers wherever they may be on their journey through grief.

I first came to know the author via her Grief Speaks out website in 2014, which then led me to her Facebook page. it was about 8 months after the death of my husband. I was just beginning to enter the steepest and most dangerous part of a journey that would test me in every way. I wrote to Jan, as so very many have, to tell her my story and what it meant to me to have her guidance, compassion, empathy and courage in that tumultuous time, where I often thought I was going quite insane and thought that no one understood completely. She gives those in sorrow a safe place to fearlessly speak their truth, to feel, deal and heal together; far beyond the well meaning platitudes that are de rigueur. As if that weren't enough of a contribution to provide solace to untold thousands, Jan also gave me and to so many, the gift of her friendship and her example of one who is determined to live an authentic life to it's fullest ~ in a way that celebrates all that is still true, pure and joyous, even in the midst of unspeakable sorrow. I will be ever in glad debt to her and look forward to sharing this long awaited book with all those that may benefit from it's courageous honesty. One can never truly know what manner of healing they may be bringing to another with just a word, a phrase or a willingness to listen. I read many books and tried many things to help me with my grief but nothing helped me like this book by Jan Warner. The daily quotes really gave me hope. I can relate so much to everything the author has been through because i am going through the same thing. This is one book I can really relate to and would advise anyone suffering with grief to buy this book!

What a wonderful book! Jan has selected a wonderful variety of quotes but my favorite parts of the book are her tales of her own personal experiences. She is relatable, sharing a breadth of emotions that sometimes make me smile and sometimes make me teary. We have all experienced loss and one way or another and Jan helps bring to light that grief is a spectrum. There is no right or wrong way and it is certainly not linear, as this book brings to light. I highly recommend!
