Mike Fabarez obviously does not know his audience. His title and subtitle will attract Christian parents looking for supplement information and wisdom to help them raise godly men. Fabarez instead gears his writing to unbelievers who want to raise godly men. Makes sense, right? No, not at all. Fabarez toggles from using scripture, to making snide remarks, to talking to Christians, to talking to unbelievers. This book has a great title and subtitle, but it's obvious he hasn't decided on his audience. It seems as if he just wanted to say that he's written a book.I appreciate that scripture is used in this book, however, the author makes MANY statements without backing them up (with either the Bible, or statistics, or even personal outcomes). Fabarez writes from an extremely narrow point of view - his sample size of two sons and their specific personalities. He makes no mention or consideration that kids come with all sorts of different personalities, strengths, weaknesses, and gifts. Please note that this is a book simply written by a man who has raised two sons. That is all. He hasn't studied people, he makes no mention of an extensive history of counseling others like Dr James Dobson does in order to assure that he may indeed, know more than his reader on this subject. Are the Fabarez sons "successful?" "Godly?" "Loving?" We don't know. The author doesn't say. There is zero evidence that Fabarez is someone from which Christians should seek godly advice from.Legalism and ill counsel oozes from this book and the author's condescending tone is thinly veiled. I can't help but wonder if all the positive reviews for this book are coming from people who attend this author's church in which he pastors.The bits in this book that my husband and I agreed with were already things we know and implement with our family. These things we've learned from reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit's prompting, godly counsel, reading Dr Dobson, listening to Dave Ramsey, etc.If you are considering reading this book, pray first. Ask the Lord to make it clear what He wants you to glean from this book and if there is any ill counsel, that you would be able to spot it right away and know that it does not come from God.

This is an extremely practical, timely, and necessary book on raising boys to become Godly men. Using the Bible as the basis, Mike Fabarez outlines practical guidelines for raising Godly men in a Christian home. If you are a Christian parent you should read this book.

Colleen is smart, thoughtful and logical. It's not too salesy or preachy or sporty. It's just great advice, insight and a reality check. I love this book. I bought the kindle and the audiobook. It has very good information and it's very helpful. The only reason I have it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the lady reading it was somewhat monotone. The examples she used were okay too.

As a seasoned sales manager, I found that Colleen's book was both practical and actionable. The hardest part of managing sales people is the emotional intelligence - getting them to look in the mirror and be real, confident and goals-oriented. All of my sales people are reading this book as a guideline to emotional intelligence. Then we are using it together to trouble shoot problems and hopefully to gain more insight into how people work and make decisions. I recommend this for every sales manager...the practical techniques will help you sleep better at night.

I will agree right away that this book has some nice photography and it is not likely that the average collector will ever see some of the pottery listed in this book. Also I want to tear my hair out at times distinguishing between Nelson McCoy pottery and Bush McCoy pottery. Some of the pieces listed were apparently either made by both or they were borrowing heavily from each other. For instance I have always thought that the Princess Line from the mid-60's was a Nelson McCoy line (Page 144). So it would definitely suggest that a novice might also want to pick up Sanfords'Guide to McCoy Pottery. Just to note, the use of the name Brush Mccoy ended in the late 20's so anything made after that should be either Brush or Mccoy, not the combined name.(I also have to admit that I have a distinct fondness for the Princess Line. It is still reasonable and fits nicely with both a mid century modern decor or a more traditional decor. Plus, it is still reasonably priced.)The price guide is a separate leaflet, but as was noted elsewhere it is very outdated. The price of the older items have soared, and even the more common planters are attracting interest because of the increased interest in mid 20th century design.Finally, I have a complaint about the presentation of information in the book. One of the main reasons to buy a guide such as this is the identification of unmarked pieces. A great deal of the early Brush pottery was unmarked. A good way to identify unmarked pottery is by looking at the bottom of the pot. The way the pottery is finished can give good hints about maker and age. Good photographs of the bottom of some of these pieces would be very helpful in identification.

Not my favorite Brush-McCoy book but it’s okay and arrived as promised.

Like the book, would get a new copy as opposed to used. Good pictures and shows you pieces that I never related to Brush McCoy.

My mother collects McCoy brown pottery. I thought this would be great for her. She can look thru book, see what she has and what-not.
