I am not much of a reader but have been a TS fan since I was in grade school and a serious fan of Dee himself. I bought his movie and his albums that came out in the 90's... I loved reading this and found it hard to put down. He writes like he talks so I was entertained from the first line. He is honest about everything including about his own character flaws...but if your a true fan you will love his flaws...as it's Dee ,...it's who he is... and he is a solid man, a warrior to be able to survive all the wins and losses in his music career. I never knew. How could we know.. Thanks for sharing your journey to the world.. Your so inspirational and a huge motivator... Sher

I was never a huge Twisted Sister fan, but grew up in the 80's and loved the whole metal scene. I bought this book hoping to get an insight to the whole era, and how the music industry worked back then. Dee delivers on that story, but also delves into many other facets of his personal life, family, relationships, band history, and gives a great glimpse into how driven he was in his quest for superstardom, and what boundaries he overstepped to get what he wanted. Not just about the salad days, either. The rise to fame, life at the top, and the downfall of a multi-platinum band is all revealed, warts and all. He's also not afraid to reveal his inner fears and weaknesses, and his candor is something that a lot of other autobiographical authors should take note of. If only every book was this honest. Very well written. You'll either come away hating him, or admire him for his honesty. I'm sure Dee wouldn't have it any other way. Get this book!!!

Unlike most of the other rock biographies I've read, this one focuses on the actual making of a band, and the ups and downs of the music industry. It's NOT the diary of a madman who spent his entire life getting drunk and high and being a rockstar. What this book DOES contain is introspective and intelligent stories told from a completely sober and sane perspective. I was, and still am a fan of Dee and T.S., and reading this book has solidified my allegiance as an original SMF!!

Very good! Dee writes an honest portrayal of himself, and is not afraid to admit his short-comings both musically and personally. I grew up on Twisted Sister and after the 80's moved on, I never game them another thought. I thought they were just another glam band with a few hits. Dee writes about how he got there and it a really fun ride. Not as zany as some of the other 80's hair metal books but that was because Dee chose to stay out of that most of the time. However he still has seen a lot and he shares it all.At the end, you realize he's a good dude, smart man who made the most of the short career in music and is still riding it today. He is also a family man and it shows. Great job Dee.

I gave this book five stars for a couple of reasons. First of all it is very detailed and well written. The second reason is my god Dee has overcome so many hurdles (careerwise) that he just deserves all the credit he can get! He has worked so hard and though he certainly has lots of ownership (as he admits to) in much of what happened there was a lot that was just bad luck. What an amazing story he shares.I was interested in reading this book because I knew he was best friends with Howard Stern (who I used to love -which has tampered a bit but I still like him) and was curious how that happened (just seemed like an unlikely pairing) and thought Dee's TV show was good. You could tell that he has a wonderful family life. I was fascinated that he had such a great homelife given his career choice - rock star - in particular in heavy metal! And that fact he seemed like he really was faithful and loved his wife. So all those things endeared him to me. The detail was a bit much for me but you definitely got your money's worth. I would have preferred that he finished out his lifestory and removed some of the detail....so when I got to the end I was "disappointed" in that that is what I was anxious to find out....how did he get back on his feet. But I guess you can't fault him for wanting to drag it out so you had to buy the second book. That would be my only "negative" or disappointing feedback. So this book essentially stops in the 90s.

I must admit I've never been a Twisted Sister fan but after hearing Dee on the radio talking about the book it sounded interesting. He is a good writer with the ability to connect to the reader. You find the stories easy to relate to and his self deprecating humor makes the reader empathize with him as a person. You really start to like Dee, whether you know anything about him or not.The most interesting part is the rise and fall of his band and how the record business works from that perspective.This is not the typical rock star book with a collection of "road stories" and self-aggrandizement. It's a true, honest biography and history of Dee's life, loves, triumphs, and tragedies. There are plenty of lessons to be learned and his insight into life is worth the price of the book. A really good read!

I love Dee because he is outspoken, a great entertainer, and hell of a songwriter. I loved this book because it was everything you'd expect to hear from Dee and a whole lot you wouldn't expect. This is a balls out, no-holds barred look into the life of Twisted Sister, and more importantly, the life of the man who is the life Twisted Sister, Dee Snider. Really, if you're a fan of the band, a musician who wants a look inside the creative life of a killer front man, or just interested in seeing what makes Dee tick, this is a great book for you. Very well written (by Dee himself, just ask and he'll tell you). Grab this one and enjoy.

Through the Autumn Air for me was a little difficult To follow at certain points. With that said once you got into the book you quickly picked up on the characters story line and were pulling for them. Mary Katherine has raised her family and now that she is a widow for the last several years her passion lives in storytelling and hopefully opening a book store with her best friend, problem is she is and Englisher.Ezekiel loves his life as well widowed for many years and the owner of a very busy diner the Purple Martin. Together they come together to work on a project or is the project working on them? This is a wonderful book of how to look past the obvious and simple answer, learn to follow God’s plan for your life even when it’s difficult to do so. Kelly Irvin has done a wonderful job with this series. I highly recommend it

It was easy to give this book a five. I enjoyed it so much I bought number 4. There was romance, a good story line, lessons to be learned. A good book to read on a cold winters night curled up in a chair with a bowl of pop corn.

I've purchased many of Kelly's books for my wife.She loves all the characters in her books and loves how she is able to follow the plot lines and the characters from one book to another.She can't wait to read her new book due out in February.

Through the Autumn Air brings in an older woman as a main character. It was a brilliant choice, making this book stand out against the rest of the Amish fiction stories out there. There are many unexpected situations in this book! I loved the idea of a widow starting a second life as a business woman and maybe a wife for the second time. Mary Katherine’s prickly personality wasn’t always charming, but she had a heart of gold. It frustrated me that the people in her life, especially her oldest son, treated her like she was an invalid. Maybe that’s just the way of things in the Amish world, but it was disrespectful and unkind.Through the Autumn Air brings about many questions that any reader could relate to. What would you give up for love? How does a person move on after a deep tragedy?Kelly Irvin’s books are some of my favorite in Amish fiction, so I’d definitely like to read the other books in the Every Amish Season series.I received a free book from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.

Mary Katherine, nicknamed Mary Kate, has been widowed for seven years and is coming upon the autumn of her life, but is having a bit of trouble settling. Her youngest child out of ten children has just been married off and she knows what she wants to do, but she may not be allowed to according to the ordinances of the Amish Church. She has a lot of dialogue with her deceased husband Moses and it seems that he answers, but no one else knows about that or her secret desire to write and to own a bookstore. Her oldest son is trying to convince her to move into his Dawdi house, but she is still resistant for good reasons. She definitely knows that’s what she doesn’t want to do, and her oldest son is getting pretty pushy these days.Ezekiel Miller is the local café owner of The Purple Martin Café, named in honor of his late wife Lucy. He and Mary Kay were friends in school days, but are literally thrown together at Mary Kate’s youngest daughter’s wedding feast. They fell on each other, cake and all after her older son had grabbed her arm and then suddenly released her. It seems that there were as many sparks flying as cake crumbs when the two landed together in a heap.Mary Kay’s best friend is English and wants to partner with her in a bookstore, and Mary Kay would love to do that, which makes her dream of being a book store owner seem more in reach. She is also not immune to Ezekiel’s charms but hesitates starting over and giving her heart away again, especially since he has some health issues.There are a series of petty crimes in the small community, but only directed at the Amish community. The timing is not ideal for the English gentleman who becomes a special friend to the couple.Ms. Irvin’s stories are warm and engaging right from the start and flow very well. There is no going back in the book thinking you’ve missed something. Even though Mary Kate has ten children, you will definitely be able to easily follow the story and keep the characters straight. I appreciate the fact that the author does not get caught up in some of the legalistic aspects of the Amish culture. There is no mention of shunning or kneeling confessions or anything like that in the book. She focuses on the main characters and draws them out for a warm and rich story.Note that this is book 3 of 4 in An Every Amish Season series. This book could be read as a stand-alone, but you would miss some Ms. Irvin’s wonderful and flowing narratives.I received an advanced reader copy from the author. About the Author

Sue Whitney founded JUNKMARKET in 2000 in response to a need in the marketplace for utilizing vintage finds stylishly in your home. Her company's vision was pretty and practical design through affordable re-use. She grew the company at a rapid rate and it was not long before JUNKMARKET was the national leader in the industry, and it remains so today. Sue has authored three successful titles (Decorating JunkMarket Style, Junk Beautiful, and Junk Beautiful: Outdoor Edition), and her 4th—Junk Beautiful: Furniture ReFreshed is due out fall 2017. She has produced columns for Country Home and Country Gardens magazines, produced her own special interest magazine issue, and contributed to dozens of other publishers. She is the founder of JUNKMARKET Style, a large online community of about 42,000 loyal members, and is active on Facebook, with 8,500 likes. Sue is a veteran public speaker and she knows her way around a television studio. She has been on the Today show multiple times and appeared regularly on HGTV's Country Style. She is also a paid speaker and consultant to vintage shows around the country. In spring of 2015, Sue launched her own show, Uncorked JUNKMARKET Style.

Had a few good projects

I love junk. Great information and tips!

This was hugely disappointing. Sue Whitney no longer has the special je ne sais quois that she had when partnered with Ki Nassauer. The ideas in this book were tired and overdone.

This is the poorest excuse of a book that I've ever seen. I was hoping for some before and after pictures of items but didn't get any. Lots of photos of crap,....her hand holding a brush or roller, her tools, non-relevant items, just a mish mash of nothing important. I'm returning the book.

I have bought books on house and furniture ideas before but they are unrealistic to find the same item, expensive or too time consuming. However this book has realistic ideas that I can copy pretty close! My favorite part its how she arranges things, which I can duplicate in my own home. She also has a rotation of ideas so they don't all look the same. Its also a mixed style of things so its not all the same look. She mixes up the old and the new in such a fresh way that I would have never would have thought to put together.

She has done it again! Another impressive publication by Sue Whtiney. Fresh ideas for rejuvenating furniture with detailed how-to instructions suitable for novice or seasoned DIYer. Great inspiration and a fun read.
