This is the second book I've purchased written by Darrell about Greene and Greene furniture construction. Both of Darrell's books were an invaluable resource for me as I designed and built an entertainment center in the Greene and Greene style. This book does a deeper dive into some of Darrell's techniques for embellishing your furniture. His writing style is concise, and he shares his many years of experience in this style. I highly recommend the book to any furniture maker thinking of exploring the Greene and Greene style. My only regret is that I purchased an electronic copy for my Kindle. That was a mistake because there are some books that really don't work well in the electronic format. Buy a printed copy.

I have both of Darrell Peart's books now...I think he has only two. Anyhow, this book is a perfect sequel to his first which was a masterpiece in Greene & Greene craftsmanship. First, I must say that I LOVE and have built many G&G pieced of furniture. I am an amateur woodworker and have built the furniture only for my family (6 children and 16 grandchildren). Actually, I have become quite good at the art. However, Peart's first book and now this one have opened my eyes to techniques and methods that have made my work MUCH MORE professional and, in some cases, saved time. Both books are very well illustrated and written. They are very nice "how to" books but also provide some of the history and development of the G&G style. If you like or produce Arts & Crafts furniture, you will LOVE both of Peart's books.

I loved the first book and this one is just as good. I'm a real fan! The thorough construction techniques of Greene and Greene style details are great and I've found them useful for my own projects.I often look at these design elements/features on other people's piece's (including the Hall bros), and I'm often left wondering "How did they do that exactly?" I can usually figure out a way to do it, but it's a kludge and I generally know there's got to be a better way. This book shows you the "better way" for many elements such as an arched drawer pull, proud finger joints, rectangular ebony plugs, the "waterfall" leg, etc. This stuff is really useful: I built and continue to use a jig for the Blacker House leg detail outlined in the first book. The jig makes it easy and now my pieces have a subtle detail that improves the overall look without a lot of extra effort. There are also a couple complete projects that provide further insight into overall construction.

Part writes well on this topic. I've read it twice, at least, and will no doubt refer to it many times while I build all the furniture for our house. Yup, eventually I want all our furniture to be G&G inspired, and built by me with my own take in the style. This book is one that will really help with this project. Looking forward to it.

My husband, who is a skilled woodworker and carpenter, has long been a fan of Darrell Peart and took a class from him earlier this year. He plans to build a Greene & Greene styled dining area built-in cabinet in our house and was really happy to get this book to aid him in creating some of the design features for this project. Well written with great photos.

I would probably give any book on Greene and Greene a 4 and I was especially pleased with this one. It is focused on the furniture within the houses and not the houses. The emphasis is on construction techniques. This book is one of about four that I own on this subject and this one is better than the others. The pictures are very helpful. I spent a pleasant evening or two with this book. My only regret is not having time to do some of the projects

I've been lucky enough to take a couple weekend courses with Darrell Peart and Greene and Greene is this mans passion in life. Having this book and his newer one is invaluable if you're interested in learning some of Greene and Greene's details. If you can't take courses with him there's no better way to learn than from the books of a passionate master.

Lots of great info about the furniture and history, but Darrell could stand to tone down his infatuation with the Greenes.

I'd read these stories before with the exception of the first one, new, "Too Much Time". Even so, I enjoyed them almost as much as the first time I read them. Lee Child's meticulous attention to detail, along with his excellent character development, dramatic timing, and well-paced plots, makes for enjoyable "page-turner" reading. One fault I find in his writing/stories. Despite that aforementioned meticulous attention to detail, Mr. Child obviously knows very little about the progression of a military career (I am retired after 26 years in the military). The characters often have reached rank much quicker than is possible, to include Reacher. One of the most glaring errors is his brother. The various stories establish that he is born in 1958, and would have graduated from West Point in 1980, plus or minus one year. How then, as in "Small Wars", can he be a full colonel in 1989, a mere 9 years after graduation. Even being promoted at the earliest possible opportunity, he would be pushing it in a highly accelerated year group to make major by then (and since I am a contemporary of Jack Reacher in age and know what the group two years ahead of me did, that also wouldn't be true). Okay, a small nagging complaint for what are otherwise engaging stories. Oh, PS, how in the world do you justify Tom "pretty boy" Cruise in the role of Jack Reacher? I hope the money was worth sacrificing your principles Mr. Child. Jack Reacher sure wouldn't have taken that deal!

For Reacher fans this collection of short stories is an enjoyable read. As I understand, this is a complete collection of Child's short stories about Reacher. There is a recent novella, Too much Time, which is included. Having read the 22 Reacher novels that Child has penned, this collection provided additional information about Reacher's childhood, early adolescence, his parents, and family life. There is plenty of action and proof positive as to Jack Reacher's physical prowess. Several of the stories show Reacher's softer side and u8nsolicited sense of caring. A refreshing change of paceI found this a fun read that added to my collection of Reacher facts.

418 pages. 12 novellas. Some long at 72 pages. Some Short at 6 pages. Average of 38 pages. 105 seconds per page. 43,890 seconds to read the book. Did you ever notice that when one finishes a Jack Reacher novel, that there is a tendency to talk like him? When it was announced, this year, that Lee Child’s latest Jack Reacher novel “No Middle Name” were going to be a collection of short stories, this reader had concerns that a series of stories would not have the same impact of a complete novel. I was wrong. This was pure reading enjoyment and I am hopeful that author Child will again offer a collection of short stories. The stories are exciting and from different year’s in Jack Reacher’s life. There were two stories, one that included his brother Joe, in which this reader had to take pause and think about the deeds Joe did and also what Jack did. This was simply a fun read!

When I'm not reading books germane to my profession as a minister and religion journalist, I like to read mysteries and thrillers. At the top of my list of must-read authors is Lee Child, who has written twenty-one novels featuring Jack Reacher, as well as the twelve short stories contained in No Middle Name: The Complete Collected Jack Reacher Short Stories, just released by Delacorte Press on May 16.The book contains one new story, "Too Much Time," and eleven previously published stories, the oldest, "James Penney's New Identity," having been written in 1999. With the exception of "Too Much Time," the stories start with Reacher as a youth and end in the present day. They are of uneven quality, in my opinion. "Too Much Time" is Lee Child at his best, as Reacher is arrested for a crime we all know he didn't commit. "Maybe They Have a Tradition" and "No Room at the Motel," both Christmas-time stories involving pregnancies, are, well, just okay. The number one rule of fiction is the willing suspension of disbelief, which is especially important when reading Reacher stories of any kind. Reacher is a decorated, West Point educated, ex-military police officer who now travels the United States (and world) with little more than some cash, his passport, and a foldable toothbrush in his pocket. Along the way, he gets himself into scrapes with miscreants, whose crimes he detects and whose just sentence he metes out, often violently, even lethally. In other words, he's a homeless sociopath whose rough justice happens to be directed at targets who had it coming. What keeps you from thinking about Reacher's shortcomings too long, in addition to the fact that the targets of his beatdowns are deplorable, is Lee Child's prose, which I can only describe as kinetic. Child has a way of pulling you along word after word, sentence after sentence, page after page. He makes you want to know what will happen next because you're right there with Reacher, who's wondering that too.If you haven't read any Jack Reacher stories, I wouldn't start with No Middle Name, which I generally liked. Start at the beginning with The Killing Floor. The novels will make you a fan. No Middle Name is for the already convinced.

#705,804 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This book is my new favourite book. It is so neat to read about Audrey from a personal aspect. The recipes are interesting/fun, and I am so excited to try them. I love the history and stories that accompany them. With most cases in life, that is what is more important than the recipe itself so it is fun to hear about them. I loved flipping through and seeing all the photographs, as well. This is a beautiful book, tribute, and memoir of life with Audrey from the person who knows her best, and I am so thankful that this was published. I found myself smiling after reading certain paragraphs, and you could really feel her personality behind story that was told. An absolutely wonderful read that I will absolutely continue to read and go back to, and utilize recipes from. Beautiful book.

Just when you thought you'd read everything about Audrey there could ever be, here comes a charming book written by someone who should know his Audrey— her son, Luca Dotti. In "Audrey at Home" (subtitled "Memories of my Mother's Kitchen") he tells us that Audrey may not have been the best cook, but whatever she served was made with love. Love indeed makes everything taste delicious. This is not a recipe book with stories, this is a book of stories (and many photos) with recipes. Luca says if you only ever prepare two dishes, they should be Audrey's flour-less Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream and Penne with Ketchup (which doesn't sound half bad— the ketchup is just a splash). Many of the recipes are very continental and perhaps a little too formal for the way we cook today, but this is cookbook reading of the best kind— no cooking required.Luca's memories of his parents are seen through a child's eyes. His life in Italy was carefree until his parents' divorce when Luca was twelve. Despite the split he remained close to his father, as did Audrey and Andrea. I always had the feeling Andrea Dotti was a bit of a bounder and could never fathom what Audrey saw in him. Luca reminds us that love can be blind.Audrey retired from films for many years to raise her two children, first in Italy, then in Switzerland. She loved her home there, "La Paisable", with its many gardens. The book's photos are candids, snapshots and/or family photographs with added snippets of recipe cards and notes. It's a privilege to get to know this out-of-the-public-eye Audrey, and I thank Luca for sharing. Of course we love her even more.

My daughters bought me this book hot off the press and I devoured it the first night in one sitting. What a lovely testament to one of the world's most beautiful women. Audrey's son Luca shares the very private world of his mother in a book that is a must for fans. The stories mixed with his memories and all of her delicious recipes are purely magical. The photographs are as lovely as the graceful woman in them and the way it's all put together made me feel such a connection while reading it. Not only did Luca love his mother, but he understands how the fans loved her and he's shared her story in a way that would have made her incredibly proud. Bravo!

Wonderful book. Part memoir, part cookbook. Full of never before seen personal photos from Audrey's personal life. And recipes in Audrey's original handwriting! Easy enough for even cooking challenged people like me to try. A must for fans and anyone who enjoys getting a peak into the personal life of a great star. Audrey definitely loved to eat. (appearances were deceiving). Many thanks to her son Luca for putting this book together. A real treasure. One can enjoy looking at the photos after cooking a good meal (using recipes from this book!)

A one-of-a-kind remembrance of Audrey Hepburn by the youngest of her two sons. Luca Dotti was born after Audrey's most famous films were well behind her, so he was raised largely unaware of her stature as one of brightest stars ever in the Hollywood firmament. His observations about his "mom" are woven here around Audrey's favorite recipes, which she often cooked or whipped up herself. It's a unique concept for a unique book about a unique woman who was so much more than the movies she was famous for. Like Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn completely dismissed the very idea of ever writing a book about herself. But I think she would have been very proud of the book her son has written, inspired by the commonplace items usually left behind, and undiscovered, in a kitchen drawer.

What a treat this book is to read. For years I’ve heard of the flourless chocolate cake thatAudrey Hepburn frequently made and at last I have the recipe. The same with her pasta recipes made with home grown, garden fresh tomatoes. Who ever thought that soy sauce would work with pasta? Great match.Reading how this fashionable woman raised her boys, entertained, worked in films, dance, and a representative for the United Nations was also intriguing and informative.A terrific book, and the author is a great credit to his mother.

My daughter wanted this book so badly. I got it as soon as it was released. My daughter then cooked Audrey's favorite spaghetti recipe. We went shopping picked the best tomatoes , and carrots. Dinner that night was delightful. My daughter is loves Audrey watching all her movies over and over. I just purchased her the dvd sets. For only 17 she appreciates the person Audrey was. What's strange is my daughter looks a lot like her. This book is wonderful and the family photos are just a wonderful added touch. Only wish I could have had it signed because it would have made my daughter just so darn happy. Thank you for sharing so much of who she was.

A lovely look into the life of Audrey Hepburn as a person, not necessarily as a celebrity.Favorite recipes are shared along with memories by her son Luca. She liked her gardens, her family, her animals, her friends, her food and her painting. The cover work is her own painting of her garden. The book is really confirmation of what a lovely soul she was and I enjoyed it through the voice of her son.
