I was required to purchase this book for a class that completes my minor in gerontology. I did use the book and it is straight to the point. It does include case studies and mental health exams that a geriatric psych nurse would need on a daily basis. It contains up to date information and even has a section on ethnic diversity. (What class doesn't these days?) It has useful tools for professional nursing in the Appendix section. If this book is suggested, but not required...I would still get it. It will stay in my library after I have completed the class.
