The Diamond Cutter book is very practical and a very special book. I read it a month ago and I can't say now that all of the principals do really work but my gut tells me that it is all true. One of the main ideas in the book is to take 2 or more weeks in solitude and to tackle the biggest challenges in your work and life, away from all the noise in the city and people - just to spend some time alone and listen to your mind. I usually do the most difficult things to feel the main idea, so I took 2 weeks away from work and went it in the mountains all by myself.Believe it or not, I found answers to all of my challenges in work and in life. It was a very very scary thing and a really painful one; to see the bare naked truth of why I am the way I am and why I can't achieve what I like and desire. The truth was one and simple though. Nevertheless, it was really difficult to listen to my mind becoming louder and louder every day.Ever since I'm back, I feel my life has been changed even though I am still the same. One small change in me that I can give as an example is that I don't write reviews on Amazon or anywhere else because it takes a lot of time and effort, and why would I bother to do it? Nothing I could gain - that's how I was thinking before. I just read what others have written and then I decide to purchase something here on Amazon or not. After reading The Diamond Cutter and Karmic Management, as you can see, I write reviews because there is something in me that believes now that what goes around comes around. Get the book and do something with it; reading is just reading - nice but take some action, then the change will come inevitably.
Somehow I stumbled across this book through an email from Learning Strategies and I am ever so grateful I did. As soon as I began reading it I felt like I was reading truth, I was like all the pieces started falling together in my mind. This aligns with what I have been learning through the thinking system called FasterEFT but goes down a new avenue for creating change. I started my Six Times Book September 10 and haven’t missed a day and plan to continue this practicing indefinitely. Within in just a couple of weeks the ripple effects were showing up everywhere. Next I began the silent time in the morning to set th day. I began having more ideas for things related to my business and have started getting more things done. There’s more flow. I’ve started sharing with book with anyone I think it will benefit - sending it as gifts all over the place. I have yet to implement the forest circles but I look to that in future as the other practices help me get my business and life into an even better order and flow. If you want to really really change your life don’t simply read or listen to this book. Practice it. I’ve also read the follow up, Karmic Management and it is a perfect complement to move forward for me.
This is the best explanation and illustration of karma that I have ever read. Geshe Michael Roach explains, from his experience and understanding of Buddhist wisdom and the teachings of other great teachers, exactly how the effects of our thoughts, actions and words extend into the world and create the conditions we experience. The real world examples in this book illustrate that the strict moral integrity that is encouraged by all the world's greatest spiritual teachers is important not in the interest of social order or because of obedience, but because it creates the very fabric of our perceived reality. This book is a treasure.
When I was reading this the author kept saying you have to be generous, give things away and good things will come back to you and it's actually happening for me now. It's not that simplistic but it would take too long to explain here so read the book.
I can’t speak more hightly about this book. If you believe that business and Buddhism have nothing to do with each other, think again. This book has all sorts of stories, strategies, and anecdotes for someone looking to elevate their professional lives.I have gotten so many of these books to my close business acquaintances!
Over the years I've read many books on spirituality, and only a few that relate it back to business. This was a good read. One of the key components I really appreciated was Roach's breakdown on how you can shift your energy in a consistent way to attract what it is you want. His method I have not seen before and like:*-- Choose 3 of the 26 or so business challenges that you experience;*-- Meditate daily on those three (along with the solutions he recommends);*-- Start a daily journal to keep track on how it works (both good and bad);*-- recap the day's experience at night (in your journal);*-- do a weekly day-off work routine to recharge and review your life and work balance; In all these steps he explains how to do this.I did NOT give him 5 stars, only because I thought some of his assertions were somewhat unsubstantiated. He made opinions as if they were facts, without data to back them up. Not a lot, but enough to wish he would demonstrate this a bit more.In all, a solid read.
I listened to the Audible version of this book, having purchased the Kindle edition with the synced Audible version. Hearing the author's narration added deeper understanding of the principles presented. I found it very comprehensive and will probably reread it several times since there's so much information to absorb. What I appreciate is that it's an ethical, sustainable approach which goes to the source of so many of the usual problems encountered in any business. The author offers another way to resolve, heal and transform the situation. It's a refreshing and inspiring! It's business as a responsible spiritual practice.
This is a refreshing change of approach from books about applying Buddhist psychology to applying Buddhist ideas to business. Drags a bit in the section "The Correlations, or Common Business Problems and their Real Solutions" in that situations and solutions tend to be a bit redundant - this is the only reason for the 4 stars instead of five stars.
