Excellent text on equations and analysis that deals with compliant mechanisms. This book is also a terrific review of stress analysis and fundamental kinematic equations. I actually took the graduate class from Larry Howell, who wrote the book. He is one of the pioneers of compliant mechanisms.
This book is very well written and provides a clear background to fundamentals needed to design compliant mechanisms (e.g. stress analysis, kinematics, etc.). Compliant mechanism design theory is also simply laid-out for the reader. My main critique of the book is that it was written over a decade ago so current trends in the area have not been updated. I would love to see an updated second edition. That said, I highly recommend this book for those looking for foundational compliant mechanism theory.
The book got here just fine, and the price was the best, but if you're in a hurry for getting your book, go look somewhere else. They just last too much to ship it, and don't even give the information for tracking the package.
This is the first textbook to provide a comprehensive coverage of compliant (flexible) mechanism design methodology. The techniques for designing mechanisms based upon simple kinematic relationships make this book invaluable for those using flexures in mechanism design. The pseudo-rigid-body model, described in great detail, provides a simple means of determining the deflections, forces, and stresses, in beams with large deflections.A must-have for any engineer doing flexure design.
