From the Back Cover
The New Hemi engine has an aggressive persona and outstanding performance. Powering the Challenger, Charger, Ram trucks, and other vehicles in the Chrysler lineup, this engine produces at least one horsepower per cubic inch. Unleashed in 2003, it has been offered in 5.7-, 6.1-, 6.2-, and now 6.4-liter displacements. With each successive engine introduction, Chrysler has extracted more performance. And with the launch of the Hellcat and Demon 6.2-liter supercharged engines, Chrysler built the highest-horsepower production engines ever made, at 707 hp and 840 hp, respectively. This third-generation Hemi carries on a high-performance Chrysler tradition and is considered the most powerful and "buildable" new pushrod V-8 engine on the market today. Mopar engine expert and veteran author Larry Shepard reveals up-to-date modification techniques and products for achieving higher performance. Porting and modifying the stock Hemi heads as well as the best flow characteristics with high lift are revealed. In addition, guidance on aftermarket heads and modifications is provided. A supercharger is one of the most cost-effective aftermarket add-ons, and the options and installation are comprehensively covered. Shepard guides you through the art and science of selecting a cam, so you find one that meets your airflow needs and performance goals. He details stock and forged crankshafts plus H- and I-beam connecting rods that support the targeted horsepower, so you can choose the best rotating assembly for your engine. In addition, intake manifold and fuel systems, ignition systems, exhaust systems, and more are covered. With this book, you can transform a New Hemi engine into an even more responsive and faster powerplant. You are able to build the engine that suits all of your high-performance needs.

This book was a disappointment for me. I was hoping for a book that would give details about swapping a Gen 3 hemi into an older muscle car and there really was not that much useful info to be found. The chapter on ignition was a terrible gloss thru of what was out there in the aftermarket and was incomplete at that, making me think the author had little experience in this aspect of the new generation of EFI based engines. A lot of the info in the book was boiler plate fluff on general engine building info to, I assume, fatten up the content of the book, look no further than the chapter on exhaust systems, or the info on how to degree a cam.. There was a lot of redundancy throughout the book, how often can you mention Arrow Racing Engines and the Canadian Pintey Series in one book? I was really hoping this book would focus on factory parts and their interchangeability instead of the emphasis on what was out there in the aftermarket. I feel like I did not get my moneys worth. Bottom line is there is some good info in this book and if you are building a racing Gen 3 hemi it will be more valuable to you than it was to me. The author did spend time doing comparison tests of various parts combos and presents this information and dyno results which should be of value to some readers. The book left me with many unanswered questions and I know for a fact that there is better info available on 3G hemi combos in various internet forums than what was presented in this book.
This is supposed to be a technical book about getting maximum performance out a generation 3 mopar hemi engine. It is very inaccurate (example-states that all crankshafts are nodular iron-completely not true. says early 5.7 and 6.1 connecting rods are all the same-completely not true). Also, the book mentions many options for modifications but makes limited recommendations on what to use and does not give any guidance for simple things such as ignition timing curve. Seems like a book written by supporting suppliers to push their products. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Good info. Alot of the info you can skim from the internet, but nice to have a book to flip through and not worry about which website and who again dropped that knowledge you need right that minute while your hands are greasy.
For people familiar with Mr. Shepherd and previous generation Mopar engines this provides a good broad overview of the new Hemi engine. Broad overview being the key. I would have liked to have more specific information or even a chapter devoted to retrofitting these into classic cars. In all though this is a good book. A good introduction to the subject.
has a few tips that were helpful to me gen 3 hemi
Latest book on the gen3 hemis, lots of info on the 5.7 & 6.4's w/ a little info on the 6.1.
Very informative a must have if building a late model hemi.
Saved me alot of time and research on my 345 build. This is solid gold for Modern Hemi owners.
