About the Author
Marc Heiremans is an expert on Murano glass and supervises the set-up of diverse important collections across Europe and North America. He is a member of the Royal Chamber of Antiquarians of Belgium and of the Belgium Chamber of Art Experts. I bought this book specifically to research Nerox examples. While the massive amount of information is a heroic effort and includes many hitherto unseen drawings of pieces "in the workbook," it leaves questions unanswered. The book also lacks an index, which forces one to page through endlessly. The drawings are not dated, which was the practice of the glass house at that time. Fortunately, photos of actual pieces are shown with dates. It leaves me with questions: what was the exact nature of the Barovier and Toso collaboration? There are entire bodies of work, such as stellae in clear glass, that are not pictured. Is that because all were one-off? I would also have liked more photos of nerox examples. I still have unanswered questions about when some examples I have seen (and owned) were produced. Nevertheless, this book is well worth having if one is seriously interested in the history of 2oth-century Murano glass, especially since its initial publication price seems to have been reduced well below intial $160.00 offering..
