I'm very picky about baby board books. I hate when they're too wordy - especially baby Bibles that clearly aren't written with babies in mind. This one has sweet pictures and beautiful powerful words. I've purchased five of these for our church nursery. We read through the stories with the babies every Sunday. Each story is quick and happy with a sweet sing-song rhyme. It's fun to make the stories into chants or even songs. I also love that they each have a personal application at the end of the story. Important truths to be storing in our little ones' hearts! Our babies love the stories, and love patting the soft covers. Bible time is something that our babies love and look forward to each week. When they come into the nursery crying, one of the first things I do is pull out a Bible and start singing the stories. It often calms the tears quickly.

Honestly I'm thrilled with this little Bible. Now that my daughter is starting to take interest in board books and being read to (she's 2 1/2 months) I wanted to find an age-appropriate Bible with good theology, short but catchy text, and strong supporting illustrations. I thought that would be a relatively easy task but I was so surprised!I am so happy that Amazon happened to recommend the Hug-A-Bible to me becasue of my purchase of Sally Lloyd-Jone's The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name (an excellent children's Bible but more appropriate for school aged children). With Lloyd Jones I knew the theology would be good so I broke my rule of looking at children's books before buying and ordered it.I was initially surprised (and pleased) at the size of the Bible. I had assumed it was standard board book size but it's actually double that at nearly 12" tall. The cover is, in fact, hugable. Despite this being a solid board book, the furry cover (which looks like sheep's wool) makes the book incredible soft and nearly stuffed animal like. The book also appears to be well built and will probably withstand being carried around by a toddler. Now on to the content. The illustrations are bright and beautiful using primary colors. They are simple and contrasty enough to engage even a very young infant but also colorful and detailed enough to capture the attention of a busy toddler. Another thing I like about the illustrations is that all the people have a nice tan color and have black circles for their eyes. I think it is important to teach that Jesus was not a white man with blue eyes ... He grew up in a specific culture with a specific heritage. I appreciate that even in an infant's Bible the pictures are accurate. The text is wonderful. On every page on the left there are two rhyming verses and on the right is a full size picture. The first verse (as an example):"Little one, who made the seas?Who made the birds? Who made the bees?Who made the sun all big and bright? And twinkly stars to shine at night?God made them all. Oh yes it's true.Yes, little one, and God made you."Every story has a title, Scripture refrence, and then a rhyming story with a message. Here are all the stories:1. God Makes Everything (Genesis 1-2) Message: God made everything including you2. God rescues Noah from the storm (Genesis 6-9) Message: God cares for and protects you3. God helps baby Moses (Exodus 1-2) Message: God cares for you everyday in every area4. Little David beats Goliath (1 Samuel 17) Message: God helps little children like you5. God Saves Daniel in the Lion's Den (Daniel 6) Message: God keeps you in His care no matter where you are6. Baby Jesus is born (Luke 2) Message: Jesus came to be with you7. Jesus stops a storm (Mark 4) Message: Jesus is Lord of all and he answers when you call8. Jesus loves Zacchaeus (Luke 19) Message: Jesus loves you9. Jesus is Alive! (Matthew 27-28) Message: Jesus died to make us new and that is something to celebrate10. Jesus loves little children (Mark 10 and Psalm 135:4) Message: You are unique, created by God, and Jesus is your shepherd who loves youThe one complaint I have about this Bible is that the cover does not detach which means it is spot clean only. I could imagine that after being drug around by a toddler for a while this book will need to be replaced. But. That is a small complaint compared to the excellence of this Bible. Highly recommended for ages newborn-4.

My fried had one of these Bibles for her baby and I thought it wonderful. I have TWO new Great Grand babies so one for each for Christmas. Their parents loved them and one of the babies is 7 months and he sat really still on his mom's lap while she read it to him and then let him hold it. He is a baby that ordinarily does not sit still. Into his mouth it went! Other baby only 20 days old.

Positive:Good quality board for a board bookFun wooly outside.Large picturesOn the top of each page it has a heading that you can read instead of the text underneath.Negative:Its too heavy for my 19 month old to carryPictures were only on half of each pageThe fuzzy wool appears used even if you buy it brand new out of the boxThere is too many words for this to be a "baby" hug-a-bible.Overall: This box would work better for a kindergarten aged child. My 19 month old toddler LOVES to read and in fact points out objects and says words that follow stories of books. However this book is much to wordy for her. It is more of a "Child" bible not "baby" bible. The texture on the outside is fun but I can see sticky hands ruining it pretty fast. I will have to re-introduce it to her when she is older.

Great stories, great illustrations, snuggly/cuddly faux fur/fleece cover! Love this! I've given several as gifts and the toddlers snuggle them close and walk around with them like a little plush stuffed animal as they have the cozy cover. Then the inside of the Bible book has stories told just in brief snippets with engaging pictures just perfect for a baby or toddler. I've read them to toddlers at story times in church nurseries and at home to my grandchildren and they want me to read them over and over.

Love this little Bible! We have our own copy and we recently gifted one to a friend for a 1 yr old bday. My 3 yr old still loves it and once we discovered the accompanying songs from the Rain for Roots CD he's an even bigger fan. We sing the "songs" from this book every day.

This Bible is for the toddler set, and contains five Old Testament and five New Testament stories all told in rhyming poems. The reader is often directly addressed as “Little One,” which my little one enjoyed. As always, Sally Lloyd-Jones writes beautifully. Her retellings highlight the main parts of a story as well as a truth about God. For example, in “Jesus Stops a Storm” from Mark 4, the poem concludes with “His name is Jesus – Lord of all. And he will answer when you call.” My only nitpick is that based on the text, you might think Zacchaues was literally blind because he was short (“Zacchaeus was too short to see.”)! Also, Sandra McCracken and others have come up with music using the lyrics from this text in Rain for Roots. It’s a pretty mellow CD that we enjoy listening to at rest time.
